Bradley Down; Door Opens for Hoffpauir

Bruce Levine is reporting that Milton Bradley actually tweaked his groin in batting practice prior to yesterday’s game in Milwaukee and then went on to aggravate it later on in the fourth inning. Bradley’s injury, a first degree strain of his right groin, is considered mild so he is not likely headed to the DL.

The injury may provide an opportunity for Micah Hoffpauir to get some playing time in right field. The rookie has impressed everyone with his bat but finding playing time for him has been tough. Even with Derrek Lee off to a slow start, he is not likely to want any time off which would plug Hoffpauir into first base. So injury is best chance for Michah to get a few games of playing time.

It should also be noted that Kosuke Fukudome is hot, batting .409  in this young season. Reed Johnson also needs playing time, so I would expect Hoffpauir to get a couple starts this week and we could see Johnson in CF and Fukudome sliding back over to RF as well.

In any scenario, this Cubs bench is strong enough to allow Bradley adequate time to recover.
