Now is the time for the Cubs

Geo needs to bring his bat this time

With Geovany Soto due back in the lineup tomorrow after his oblique injury, this Cubs team needs to make their move. Finally after an odd season of ups and downs, injuries and Cubs “occurances”, the 2009 Cubs need to put their head down and play baseball to the level they should. I’m a believer in numbers and usually players will produce within a range close to their statistical average. Sometimes this means players fall back to earth and sometimes – as is the case with this team - guys will put together a solid run. If this theory holds true, the Cubs are in great shape being in a dead heat with the Cardinals at the top of the division. This is particularly remarkable given how “disappointing” the season has been so far.

Since the All Star break, the Cubs are 9-4 but just .500 at 3-3 so far on this road trip. The day off this week will help, and getting Soto back will help too – provided he brings his bat with him this time!  Geo needs to conjure up some of that heavy lumber he displayed last year to help spark a talented offense that really has had more fits & starts this year than anything steady. The kids from AAA have played well, but it’s time for the big boys to carry the load for a while.
